Last weekend, Steve and I decided we needed to get out of town for a bit. We headed up to Minneapolis to explore (and of course, check out Ikea). We had a sink picked out that we were hoping would work for our laundry room. I also had a long list of picture frames and other accessories to help get our house feeling more pulled together.
We got to Ikea and were greeted with this sight in the marketplace:

Yeah…apparently they are doing some renovating of the marketplace. Quite the let down to this girl…so, we didn’t pick up any fun things to decorate with. Boo.
They DID have our sink and cabinet in stock though (I checked that before we went), so we brought this lady home with us:

Our new sink love is the LILLÅNGEN from Ikea. It has a very slim profile and as a bonus, comes with 2 hooks to hang towels on and has a small shelf inside to set hand soap on. While we were there, we also spotted a faucet that complemented perfectly:

GRUNDTAL faucet from Ikea.
We took our purchases and headed home…where we got started with the worst part of buying ANYTHING from Ikea…

Luckily, we weren’t missing any pieces, we didn’t get in any fights, and we got it assembled in under an hour. Win.

Here it is sitting in our laundry room. You can see the outline of where the old sink was…this really helps you get the scale of how much smaller this is than our old sink. We have a bit of an interesting situation since our hot and cold water pipes come up through the floor instead of out of the wall like usual, but we’re brainstorming ways around it. Details to come once we are at the sink installation point…
Anybody else have the LILLÅNGEN sink? Embarking on an European/American plumbing conversions anytime soon? Sink stories to share? Let’s start the week off on a good note

Love it the sink! but that really stinks about Ikea… that’s still totally weird to me. If there is anything you have your eyes on let me know and I can grab it for you when we’re then in April… as long as they have their acts together my then
Oooh! I like that idea!! Thanks chica
Trying to install this sink now (a different version without the faucet on the side) and having a hell of a good time (not really). Between the faucet lines not reaching far enough and the fact that they are the wrong size in combination with the gal at the hardware store giving me the wrong adapter.
AND the fact that none of the supplied pipes are normal for american plumbing because they are metric. Luckily the guy i talked to at Ace had been through this and told me what to do- bust out an exacto knife and trim down one of the seal rings to it to fit onto a standard 1 1/2 inch p trap..
When all that was said and done it still didn’t match up with our water pipes.
sigh…
back to the hardware store.
Note to self. Don’t start a bathroom renovation 4 days before thanksgiving/mom visiting.
Oh no! Hope you got it in in time! I will never buy an ikea sink ever again…unless it’s really cute…
Why no more Ikea sinks? I have fallen for this Lillangen tiny sink…
Also, can that model (that is pictured in your post) be installed with the faucet on either the left or right? The assembly instructions online are of no help.
I will take a picture for you of the bottom, it was just a pain to find all the parts to convert the European plumbing to US plumbing. I’ve been really happy with the quality and the look. It can definitely be installed either way, the white sink base is not attached to the cabinet, so you can turn it either side. We picked our side and then used caulk to attach the sink to the cabinet to be sure it wouldn’t have any accidents from the dogs. We did end up having to cut a piece of the cabinet to get all of the plumbing to work correctly, but part of that is because our water sources come out of the floor instead of the wall and there wasn’t enough room for everything in there. Let me know if you have other questions or want some more pictures of the “guts”!
